One of my favorite parts of family photography is watching how young families interact with each other and getting a window into this special time in their lives. This is especially true when I have the honor of taking newborn photos because I get a glimpse of the first days of these excited new parents getting to know their precious baby. When I get to reconnect with the family later to see how they’ve grown together, it’s even better! That’s what happened with these family maternity photos.

That’s exactly the experience I’ve had with this wonderful family. When their first child, their son Maheem, was born, I had the privilege of taking Maheem’s newborn photos. They were so kind and fun to work with, so when they called to tell me they were expecting a second baby, I couldn’t wait to see them! They’ve moved about two hours away since I first met them, but were so excited to be preparing for a baby girl that they wanted to make sure Mom’s maternity photos were special, and that meant coming back to a photographer who knew them.

Most of this family’s maternity photos paid homage to their Indian heritage, with Mom, Dad, and little Maheem proudly donning traditional garments. It’s always fun to get a bit adventurous with maternity portraits too, though, so we made sure to get some beautiful and dramatic portraits of Mom in a flowing red maternity gown.

I always let families know that for maternity photos, most of my clients purchase anywhere from 2-7 of their favorite portraits. When I showed Mom and Dad the maternity portraits from their session, they both laughed because they had over 25 favorites. What can I say? I’m always thrilled when families are so happy with their photos!
